Firefighters see cuts eroding safety
By Kevin Johnson, USA TODAY
Thousands of firefighters across the country face possible layoffs this year, prompting concern that deep local government budget cuts will delay emergency response times.
Since late last year, cities have been forced to shutter local fire stations, reduce services at others and cut the number of firefighters dispatched on emergency calls. Firefighting positions have been eliminated or are on the chopping block in cities such as Orlando, Atlanta, Flint, Mich., and Columbus, Ohio.
"Whatever you do that results in increasing response times (to fires), you are absolutely playing Russian roulette," says Harold Schaitberger, head of the International Association of Firefighters (IAFF). ...Read more

Washington D.C. Fire and EMS at Metro Crash
Tulefog — Tue, 06/23/2009 - 18:33
Dear Battalion Viewers,
Our hearts go out to the families of the victums of the horrific Metro-Rail crash in Washington D.C. yesterday.
The entire D.C. Fire and EMS Department did an outstanding job on-scene and they all need your support.
This one was close to home for us. Many of the members that were on-scene are also in our Series. From what we are told; it was a very difficult rescue of the injured and the scene with people who had passed was like a nightmare...
We are here to support the people that save lives...we must all support them.
Be safe.
Sincerely,
DRF

The first ten-minutes is an interesting interview with a professional entertainment bodyguard you may enjoy. ...Read more

Pierce Mfg. continues to support the Battalion
Tulefog — Wed, 06/17/2009 - 19:44
Dear Battalion Viewers,
We are proud to announce that Pierce Manufacturing, one of, if not thee safest fire apparatus builder in the world, has re-signed as a Major Sponsor of The Battalion Series.
The deal with Pierce is, if a crew rolls a Pierce Fire Engine or Truck, they are going to live and walk away in most cases.
To our knowledge, Pierce is the only manufacture of apparatus that is UL Approved and now with their air bags all around the first responder; it’s like the safety of a luxury automobile. ...Read more
