I'm a volunteer helper at the SIGMA team in The Hague. That is a team that exists from volunteers and is founded by the Dutch Red Cross. It provides medical support in large scale accidents like plain crashes, disasters (like a dam burst) and as precautionary measure in large events like huge concerts. So I know what it takes, how hard and how dangerous it can be. I've got a lot of respect of how the emergency services are organised in the U.S.A. Here in the Netherlands, the ambulance isn't even part of the fire department. In a medical emergency, only an ambulance arrives and sometimes a police car for (non-medical) support. I've learned a lot of the American EMS.
So: honor to all EMS!
