My name is Steven McMurray, I am a fireman with the Springfield,Missouri Fire Department. I work as a second camera operator with The Battalion series.
I have filmed the Columbus,Ohio Fire Department and the Tampa,Florida Fire Department.
This is the first of several posts that I will be doing over the next few weeks. I will start with an introduction and how I became a second camera operator with The Battalion series. Next will be my experience with filming in Columbus,Ohio, then moving on to the Tampa story.
I look forward to sharing my experience with all of The Battalion members.

Hello all,
It was quite an incredible weekend around here. On Saturday alone, the dept had 2 seperate fatal MVA's, a near drowning of a 2 yr. old and a confirmed drowning of a 18yr old. Not to mention routine medical calls in between. The first fatal MVA occured in the morning when a vehicle turned into the path of another vehicle on the BL94 at River St. The second fatal MVA occured about an hour later when a truck turned into the path of a motorcyclist who laid his bike down to avoid the crash however still hit the back end of the pick up and was killed. ...Read more

I don't know why I feel the need to introduce myself everytime I post on here, but this is Ken (2nd Camera for the Branchville Series, NIH and District Heights, and Designer Type Guy). Around 1100 hours last night my local company was dispatched for a reported roof fire in a neghboring borough - our Truck (Pierce Mid-Mount Tower) responded with a full crew of 6 (me being one of the 6).
A local bowling alley was fully involved on arrival, our crew set up our tower and began aerial operations flowing water fed to us by 2 engines. Reports and staff of the bowling center confirmed the building was empty and being the bow roof construction and large void space within the structure all fire atttack was exterior. The weakened roof collapsed within minutes, our Truck Company's main objective was to help control the burn and protect any exposed neighboring units on the Alpha Delta corner. ...Read more

Hey,
It sure has been a tough week around here. Last week we lost a brother in the line of duty. PSO Eric Zapata with the Kalamazoo Dept. of Public Safety was shot and killed while attempting to apprehend a shooting suspect. He was only 35 yrs old and leaves behind 3 children.
Even though this isn't a fire LODD, the unique thing here is that with all public safety officers in Kalamazoo, they are crossed trained as fire and EMS as well as law enforcement. So not only do we have police officers from all over coming in for the service but firefighters as well. ...Read more

Hey All,
So here is the question of the day?? Does your Dept. do anything different when gas and diesel prices get this high? I know things are tough already for many depts. out there these days. We see it all the time in news stories and for those who get TheSecretList emails. The high prices at the pumps don"t help things either.
Let us know whats happening with your dept.
