About the ESS

My name is Randal Goodwin, I am the Coordinator of the Emergency Support Service. I help start the organization in 1991, after a line of duty firefighting involving a downed transmission line carring 69,000 volts left me burned over 87% of my body and blind in one eye and impaired vision in the other eye. As a result of my accident I was left without legs below the knees and a desire to still serve. Good news is the two firefighters I was attempting rescue on also survived.
I currently volunteer my time to raise money for the ESS by teaching First Aid and CPR classes. I also teach EMT and a safety class about my accident.
The ESS was formed to support all of the fire departments of Johnson
County Texas. We operate an old ambulance as a Rehab unit . We provide liquids to prevent dehydration, food for energy and medical evaluations and treatment if needed. Our only goal is the safety of our County's Bravest!
I also am involved with a project of collecting used equipment for less fortunate voluteer fire departments in our area and what they cannot use I take down to central Mexico near Chuahuahua. There it is really needed and greatly appreciated.
